some old pics of my hometown

Tower of the Americas, San Antonio, TX

I know I haven’t posted in a while - the past couple of months have been chaotic to say the least. I was just looking through my photo collection and realized I’ve never put any pictures of San Antonio up here. It’s my hometown, where I grew up and went to college. It has it’s pretty parts which I’d like to share with whoever is paying attention.

we’re going downown, baby

old barn/garage (?)

Before the rain returned, we got a chance to hit up downtown Willow Springs yesterday. Being a poor rural town, there are lots of old decrepit buildings, crumbling houses and barns. We walked down Main Street which is lined with two-story brick buildings, most of which are empty, a few scary restaurants and a pleasant little park that was filled with dogwood trees. The buildings were painted with murals and advertisements about a million and a half years ago so it made for good picture takin’.

getting used to the small town life

Downtown Houston, Missouri

With the nasty weather behind us, we’ve been able to make it out of the house a little bit over the past week. We managed to make a pit stop in a cute little town named Houston, about 30 miles north of where we live, yesterday. We got the chance to roam around downtown for a short time, but only to hit up the famous Forbes Pharmacy Soda Fountain. It was a little odd to find this cute little ice cream parlor in the back of a large pharmacy but it made up for it with it’s old fashioned charm and yummy desserts.

flowers found in twin peaks, sf

I use Lightroom to import and manipulate all my images. After I use an image here or elsewhere on the web, I tend to export it out of Lightroom just because it makes my life easier. All of the images that I don’t use online, however, tend to accumulate in Lightroom over time. With that said, it’s spring cleaning/purging time!

It looks as if Spring is fully underway here in SF. It’s still chilly at night but the weather’s been fabulous during the day. Flowers are blooming everywhere I look and I can’t wait for it to warm up a little more. I hope you guys like flowers because these shots are going to be the first of hundreds coming over the next few months…

I can’t seem to help it. I always have to take pics of anything green. It’s a moral imperative, even though I’m not sure why. Cacti and succulents are my favorite so I thought I’d share a few…

photo adventure #9: the columbarium

the Columbarium dome

We ventured into the Inner Richmond district today to tackle the Columbarium, the oldest building of its kind in the country. This unique mausoleum is right on the edge of a crowded neighborhood off of Geary Blvd., one of the busiest streets in the city. This four story architectural marvel used to sit at the center of a 67 acre graveyard that was built in 1897.

photo adventure #8: our backyard

rose blossoms

Yesterday, there was a brief break in the rain so I decided if I was going to get pics of anything at all, they would have to be of our backyard. We have a giant rose bush that is about to bloom and the entire yard is covered in a thick layer of moss from all the moisture. Lot of good textures found as well. I can’t wait for Spring, it’s going to be beautiful! More after the jump…
