neighborhood walk #3

“History of the Sunset District” mural at 37th and Quintara, SF

The rain has finally stopped… for now. The weather for the past couple of days has just been fabulous so we decided to take advantage and went for a short walk today. Our neighborhood is full of schools that are decorated with murals. The most interesting one we’ve found so far is at 37th and Quintara and was put together by the Precita Eyes Mural Arts Center. It is entitled “History of the Sunset District” and was originally painted in 1979.

The last restoration of this mural was finished in 2003 and was sponsored by the San Francisco Department of Recreation. It depicts life in the Sunset District i.e. surfers, Seal Rock, Ocean Beach, Sutro Tower, and Golden Gate Park.
